Franco Acerbis worked as a mechanic for an Italian enduro team and in 1973 he accompanied the team on a trip to the U.S.. During that trip he met Preston Petty who at the time was known for its production of plastic components for motorcycles. In 1973 Acerbis began to import Prestons fenders to Italy and founded the company thus Acerbis . 1979 Preston ended manufacturing mudguards and Acerbis who has been leading the market thus had no fenders to deliver. Acerbis then statred to manufacture their own products and they also expanded into other products, such as fuel tanks . But it is above all their plastic products that Acerbis is known for and now they produce more than 4 million plastic parts a year, with distribution in 43 countries around the world .
