FAQ's
Beat the Bandits with 24MX Motocross Locks and Alarms
Protect valuable assets with a motocross lock or security device from 24MX and beat the bandits.
It's a fact that off-road motorcycles are an easy target for thieves. With minimal electronics, motocross bikes have no built-in security devices such as immobilisers or alarms. Also, dirt bikes are light compared to road bikes, so loading them onto a truck flatbed or van is easy.
Security relies heavily on the quality and quantity of the anti-theft devices you choose to protect your motorcycle. 24MX has an impressive range of security devices. So, if you're looking for a motocross lock or motorbike lock, you've come to the right place.
Yet, with such a range and variety of motorbike locks and securing devices to choose from, how do you know which works best? Let's take a closer look at the most popular types so you can make an informed decision.
Disc lock
Disc locks are a versatile and highly portable motorcycle security option. Always invest in the most expensive you can afford, which translates to higher-grade steel and more complicated anti-pick locks. Two-disc locks are better than one, especially if you place them on either side of your calliper. If you have a rear disc, carry out the same procedure.
However, this motorbike lock type will only prevent the motorbike from being wheeled away. In this case, it is advisable to use it only as a backup. Finally, if you fit a disc lock, always add a safety lanyard. These elasticated coils stretch from the lock to the brake lever. They remind you not to ride away while the lock is in place.
Disc lock alarm
To increase the chances of preventing theft, search for a disc lock with an integral alarm. These devices feature motion detectors, so if anyone moves the bike, the alarm will warn you. When choosing an alarm disc lock, find out from the product description how many decibels it has and the battery life.
Padlock
When purchasing a padlock, it's all about the quality of the steel. Plus the anti-theft measures they offer such as freezing and grinding resistance.
You can use a good quality padlock as a disc lock if the size of the lock and the holes in the disc are compatible. Yet, the best way to use a padlock is by combining it with a chain.
Lock and chain
A top-quality motocross lock and chain set is one of the best methods of securing a motorcycle. You can use this type of motocross lock on almost any part of the bike. It's better to pass it around a frame rail or the swingarm. To take full advantage of a lock and chain, use it to secure your bike to something solidly mounted or, better yet, a ground anchor.
Ground anchor
A ground anchor or floor hook, bolts to the wall or floor of a garage or workshop and provides a secure fixed point to attach your padlock and chain.
Designs vary but if you choose a ground anchor with a fixing ring that folds flat, you won't spend time hopping around the garage with a stubbed toe. In addition, most ground anchors feature anti-removal devices for the bolts. So, choose its location carefully; once installed, that's where it will stay.
GPS tracker
A professional thief, given enough time, will find a way of overcoming a motocross lock but all is not lost. The final line of defence is a GPS tracker. It is easy to hide these small electronic devices on your dirt bike. If activated, the tracker sends a movement alert to your cell phone or computer, transmitting your bike's movement. The good news is that you can then send a link to the police so they can track its movement live.
Be aware that these devices require an activated SIM card to operate. Remember, always read the product description for information on additional monthly fees.
