Agueda, Portugal, was the destination for JWR Yamaha Racing this past weekend, as the popular track was hosting the sixth round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. The Swedish team were operating at full-strength yet again. Kevin Strijbos, Vsevolod Brylyakov and Anton Gole lined up in the premier division at the Grand Prix of Portugal.

Following a consistent outing in qualifying on Saturday, which was run in pleasant conditions, Kevin Strijbos was eager to build on the base that he established at the previous event in Italy. A bad start on a one-lined track left him with no points in moto one, unfortunately, as he could only move up into twenty-first by the time that the chequered flag was waved. The second moto was also a difficult affair for him, as an early fall left him with no points yet again. Twenty-seventh overall was his ranking on the day.

Vsevolod Brylyakov was the best-placed JWR Yamaha Racing pilot, despite another difficult qualifying race. Brylyakov was on track to acquire a healthy sum of points in the first points-paying race before some small crashes caused him to drop outside of the top twenty, but then he rebounded in a big way in the final moto of the weekend. Fifteenth was his finish in that stint, despite the fact that he started off just outside of the points, which left him in seventeenth overall on the day. Twenty-second is the spot that he occupies in the premier-class standings, following round six of eighteen.

Anton Gole joined Vsevolod Brylyakov inside of the points in the second premier-class moto, as a race-long battle left him with another point to add to his tally. That was the only point that he claimed at Agueda, as a crash halted his charge in moto one, so he ultimately ended up in twenty-first overall. Gole is now twenty-eighth in the premier-class standings.

JWR Yamaha Racing are now en route to round seven of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship, an event that will be run at the world-famous circuit of St. Jean d'Angely in France.

Vsevolod Brylyakov: "Yesterday was a bit of a hard day, after a DNF in the qualifying race, so I was starting right from the outside and had to play a smart game on the start. I was riding in around eighteenth in moto one, fighting forward and then I had a small crash that cost me a good finish. I was frustrated with that. In the second one I did not have a good start, so pushed forward and had a good race. I was quite happy with finishing fifteenth in that and am looking forward to France."

Anton Gole: "Saturday was not good. I struggled a lot with the track, as well as mentally. I was overthinking everything. This morning was the same, but in the first moto it all clicked. I felt so much better and charged to pass the guys in front of me. The last moto was the same. I am a little bit disappointed about the crash in the first moto, but I am pretty happy. One point in the second race and the field is so stacked, with so many great guys. It is really tough. These are not the positions that I wanted, but I am happy and looking forward to France."

Kevin Strijbos: "It was not the weekend that I was hoping for. I knew it would be more difficult than last week, as the track was faster. It was just difficult. I felt good on the bike, but just did not have that little bit extra. The first moto was not good and then in the second moto I crashed in the third corner, came back to twentieth and crashed again. It is just hard to come back after the two operations on the elbow. I still need more bike time, but it is still not easy as I still have some elbow problems. We are also still working on the bike to make it better. Next week is another race, so we are going to give it our best."
