Warmer weather is beginning to appear across the globe currently and, bearing that in mind, you need to be ready. How can you beat the heat when you next hit the track? Five useful tips can be found below.

Hydration: When it is hot, we sweat. Sweat is our body's way of regulating our temperature to make sure we do not overheat. It is vital we have enough fluids in our system to give our body the opportunity to self-regulate. Drinking eight cups of water is optimal for any given day, but when riding in the heat we need to make sure we drink at least eight to twelve cups. If you have a higher sweat rate, it is important to replenish your body with electrolytes and carbohydrates to keep your energy levels high.

Food: Another way to stay hydrated while also giving yourself vitamins and minerals is eating water dense food. Some fruits and vegetables contain eighty to ninety-eight percent water. Eating these foods is a good way to get a snack or meal and also improve your hydration. Good foods to eat when it is hot: Watermelon, grapefruits, cucumbers and coconuts.

Riding Time: If it is going to be a hot day, it is a good idea to get up early to ride or wait til sundown. Picking a good time when the weather is cooler is a good way to keep yourself protected from the sun and possible dangers of riding in the heat.

Clothing: Riders wear a lot of gear. There are very little ways around it. One thing you can do is wear less or invest in gear made for the heat. Look for items such as a base layer, which uses moisture wicking material to keep the moisture from your skin and your temperature down.
